The International Symposium on Biopolymers (ISBP) is a successful conference series on biopolymers that has been held every two years. The aim of this year was to further promote developments on environmentally friendly polymers and their applications. During the ISBP, the following topics were discussed: “Molecular Basis of PHA Metabolism; PHA Metabolic engineering, Systems and Synthetic Biology; PHA Production and Processing; Other Biopolymers Including Bacterial Cellulose, Rubber, Cyanophycin, Protein and Starch as well as Their Derived Materials; Production of Building Blocks for Monomer and Bio-based Polymers; Sustainable Polymer Industry: Feedstock for Bioprocesses. Up-cycling to Biopolymers. Life Cycle Assessment; and Applications of Biopolymers and Bio-Based Polymers.

One of RefuCoat’s partners, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), was present during this event. Dr. Auxiliadora Prieto gave a presentation about “Puzzling out the PHA machinery in the model bacterium Pseudomonas putida KT2440”.
